Nutrition 101

General Nutritional Information


In this section, I am going to provide you with general information that will help you know more about nutrition, these are not very complicated nor do they restrict you from eating everything and this is basically because I do not believe in broccoli diets :)
So to give you  I am going to have to introduce you to
Canada's Food Guide as an example to give you an idea of a healthy diet.
It is very important for you to note that this section is dedicated for healthy individuals who do not need special dietary modifications!!!

As you can see, the food intake requirements differ depending on 3 very important factors:                      
                        
1. AGE
                        2. SEX
                        3. Type of Food


** Note: It doesn't matter if you are off by a serving from a food group per day as long as you find a balance :)
 When you look at the food Guide, you might find it very complicated and overwhelming, but it is not and it is very visually friendly. So the colours given to the various food groups actually do represent a vast majority of the actual food that they represent. This facilitates the recall of the number of servings from the various groups.

  
    Fruits and veggies are green> pretty obviours huh.
   
Grains, ex: bread, rice and other grains> these are
    usually beigish/yellow

    Milk and alternatives> this one is kind of irrelevant but we    
    don't wanna use a white block.

    Meats and alternatives> uncooked meats are usually red-ish.




Now that you became the serving numbers masters, you want to represent what you learned on your plate. But WAIT!!! What's a serving? And is it different from a category to another?
I am going to walk you through the followig slides in order for you to understand what a serving size of each food group is.







So now that you guys all know how to eat healthy, put this theory into practice and make a change in your life. Something to remember is that if ONLY you listen to signals sent by your stomach to your brain, you would find it much easier to reach a healthy lifestyle.

In the next section, I will inform you what changes should be done in diets of people who have different requirements according to their health condition.
